Layout Design of Copra Factory Facilities in Small and Medium Industry Centers Using Systematic Layout Planning Method

This research was conducted on the layout of copra processing facilities. Copra is one of the products to be produced by the Small and Medium Industry Center in the Meranti Islands. The purpose of designing the layout of this copra factory facility is to provide a proposal in the form of a copra processing facility layout with the shortest material handling distance. The methods used in this study are Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) and Arena Simulation. The result of the SLP method is in the form of alternative layout proposals, which will be checked with a simulation model. This Arena simulation is carried out to see whether the production process of the resulting layout is good or not by implementing it into a conceptual model in the Arena software, which is then tested to see the disruptions that exist in the production process, such as the accumulation of raw materials at one of the stations (bottleneck). Based on data processing results, one alternative layout was selected with a material handling distance of 26.33 m from 3 existing alternatives. This selection is based on the smallest material handling distance obtained. Furthermore, testing the layout with the Arena software simulation model found that there was a disruption in the production process in the form of a buildup of raw materials at the smoking and drying station caused by the manual drying process using the scorching heat of the sun so that it takes 4-5 days for the drying process.

A Systematic Layout Planning and TOPSIS Application for the Design of a Power Generation Turbine Parts Repair Workshop

Objective: This paper presents a joint application of systematic layout planning (SLP) and TOPSIS methods for the facility layout design of a power generation turbine parts repair workshop. The SLP method is an easy-to-apply tool that can consider both qualitative and quantitative criteria. Materials and Methods: In this case study, the SLP method is adapted for a future plant project that is not currently in place. First, instead of a materials flow analysis, the definition of the process flow, as well as the department requirements, is carried out. Then, the closeness relationships between the process flow activities and the layout alternatives are determined. Finally, the TOPSIS method is applied to evaluate and select the best layout alternative according to the compliance with closeness relationships, the location of dangerous departments, the flow of operations, and the location of departments around a current electrical substation. Results and Discussion: The resulting facility design complies with the defined criteria, and its architectural and layout designs are presented using 3D software. Conclusion: The joint application of SLP and TOPSIS methods allowed us to obtain a proper facility layout design for the case of a power generation turbine parts repair workshop.

PENERAPAN LAYOUT DENGAN METODE SYSTEMATIC LAYOUT PLANNING DALAM MENINGKATKAN KELANCARAN PRODUKSI PADA UD.TEMON RAYA KABUPATEN PACITAN

The purpose of this research is to determine the layout of the production facilities implemented by UD Temon Raya Pacitan Regency, and then Relayout is performed using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method. This study employs descriptive quantitative methods or descriptive survey research, with data obtained through observations, documentation, and interviews with parties who understand the data required. Based on the results of UD's initial Layout effectiveness test. Temon Raya has a 29.9 % application effectiveness value, with a daily production capacity of 200 pcs and 11 main work stations. While the layout of the design results using the Systematic Layout Planning method has an application effectiveness value of 45.45 %, with the same production capacity and number of work stations, the redesign of the layout of production facilities using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method will be able to improve the smoothness of the process. As a result, the layout design created using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method can be used as a starting point for redesigning the layout of UD's manufacturing facilities. Productivity Improvement Based Systematic Layout Planning and 5S (Case Study: CV. Mutya, Indonesia)

The amount of productivity had not met the target demand of customers in CV. Mutya. This happens could be due to un-optimal the facility lay out such as the distance of material working flow and un-effective the work processes. This paper aim is to improve productivity of wooden pallets product in CV. Mutya, Indonesia. The Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method was used to improve the facility layout at CV. Mutya. To improve the work process was used 5S methods. The material transfer flow distance in the initial layout of CV. Mutya was 48.2 meters. Then, designing a new layout resulted the material displacement flow distance of 41.5 meters. Based the SLP method, to find out the root of the problem that occurs was employed the cause and effect analysis and work improvement using 5S. The 5S method was used to improve the conditions of the work environment and change attitudes by applying arrangement, cleanliness and discipline in the workplace.

Redesign of Facility Layout at Pelangi Advertising Printing Using the SLP Method

This paper aim is to investigate the work system for printing service and redesign facility layout improvement. A case study was conducted in small company namely Pelangi Advertising Printing. The Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) was adopted in this paper. The input data and activities in the SLP process are as follows: material flow, activity relationship, string diagrams, area requirement, area available, space relationship diagrams, modification consideration and practical limitations. The results of this study indicated the application of SLP in case study company can increase in facility layout efficiency from 96.7% to 98.5%. The redesign facility layout result was more effective than the initial layout.

Minimizing Material Handling Costs with the SLP Method and Material Transport Equipment in Steel Pipe Companies

Factors that influence the amount of material handling costs are the distance of material movement, methods, and tools (equipment) used. The distance of material movement is strongly influenced by the layout of the production facility. The new layout design using the SLP method is expected to reduce the distance of material or product movement in PT. A B C. From the analysis results obtained the total distance of material transfer at the initial layout of the production process at PT. ABC of 1761 meters / month with material handling costs of Rp. 315,390,000.00 / month. Then an analysis of the use of material transport equipment results in the replacement of a crane with a sloping plane to connect the production machine. So the cost of material handling using the inclined plane becomes Rp. 0. The use of sloping fields can only be used on certain production machines. By using the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method, there are 3 alternative layouts produced. The most optimal alternative layout is alternative layout 3 with monthly material handling cost savings of Rp. 68,100,000.00 or 21% of the initial material handling layout cost.
 

Redesign of Facilities Layout Using Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) on Manufacturing Company: A Case Study

An effective facility planning can significantly reduce the operational costs of companies. The facility layout problem is relating to location of objects on a given site and the material flow between these objects. The study conducted in a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) manufacturer. In the company, there are several obstacles was found in the Brushing Room. One of the causes of these obstacles can be marked by the alternating flow during the production process of the Tressel parts, one of the products of the company. To correct the problem of the layout of the existing facilities, it is necessary to redesign the layout of the facilities based on the production process flow. The methods used was the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method to minimize costs material handling resulting from the production process. Layout suggested using the SLP method succeeded in reducing the material handling costs (OMH) of the production process flow of the Tressel. This can result in savings in the company’s material handling costs, from IDR 5,377,415 per month to IDR 2,971,717 after the improvement were conducted. OMH is reduced by IDR 2,405,698 in each month and resulting in savings of 44.7%.

Layout design of new production shop based on SLP

It has become the main way for heavy industry enterprises to decrease the cost to excavate “logistics resources” according to the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP). Taking the new tool shaft machining workshop of Luoyang yituo zhongcheng machinery co., LTD. as an example, through the method of field investigation and visit, we get the data of the process flow, material handling, the relationship between each process and the general situation of the new workshop. The SLP method is used to divide the work units in the workshop, analyze the relationship between logistics and non-logistics among each work unit, determine the comprehensive relationship between each operation unit, and make the position correlation diagram. Besides, we also combine the current situation of the workshop to sort out the layout scheme to reduce the production costs of the workshop.

Prayer paper production facility layout redesign using systematic layout planning method and CRAFT

Abstract. The facility layout is a strategic design that is used for a long time. All manufacturing industries must pay attention to the right layout to increase the productivity of the industry. A prayer paper manufacturing industry located in the Tanjung Morawa area, Medan has an error in the placement of raw materials and the placement of production machines, so that the distance from the temporary warehouse to the printing and cutting work stations is far apart, causing high material handling costs. Seeing these problems, research was carried out to improve the layout of the facilities and redesign. The method used for this research is Systematic Layout Planning (SLP), which is one of the methods used to regulate a workplace in a factory by using two areas with high frequency and logical relationships with each other. And the Computerized Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique (CRAFT) Algorithm is a repair program, which is a program that looks for optimal design by making gradual improvements to the layout. CRAFT evaluates the layout by interchanging departmental locations. Inputs required for the CRAFT algorithm include initial layout, data flow or frequency of movement, cost data per unit distance, and the number of departments that do not change or remain. The CRAFT method is usually applied using Quantitative Systems (QS) software. By comparing the layout between SLP and CRAFT, the optimal result is obtained using the SLP method by reducing the distance between departments by 1.407 meters or a distance efficiency of 39.91%.

Relayout Production Facility of PC. Spun Pile Using Systematic Layout Planning in ABC Factory

ABC Factory is one of the companies engaged in manufacturing precast concrete in Indonesia. This company was established in 1978 under the auspices of XYZ Group Since. The products produced by ABC Factory are Precast Concrete / Prefabricated Concrete or often abbreviated as "PC". Some of the products manufactured by ABC Factory are PC. Spun Pile, PC. Square Pile, PC. Spun Pole (Electric Pole), PC. I Girder, PC. Box Girder and several other products. ABC Factory uses the Make to Order production method, so it is demanded to produce orders maximally and as efficiently as possible. In this manufacturing company, the preparation of the layout of production facilities greatly affects the production cycle time which in turn will have a major effect on the company's production capacity. for that, the company needs to redesign the layout of the PC production facility of Spun Pile with the best production flow. Based on these problems, the method used is to use the SLP (Systematic Layout Planning) method which functions to produce a layout design for production facilities that minimizes material movement distance and produces a good production flow in ABC Factory. Based on the results of the study obtained a reduction in the distance of material flow facility layout by 72.71 meters and an increase in production capacity of 138 cigarettes or 13.44% of the initial layout.

Redesign of The Production Facility Layout by Using Systematic Layout Planning Method at Cahaya Bintang Mas Company Surabaya

On the production floor at Cahaya Bintang Mas Company Surabaya, the arrangement of production facilities is not optimal because the material handling distance is quite far. One effort to overcome the problems that occur, then do the redesign of the facility layout that occurs on the production floor using the Systematic Layout Planning Method. The research was conducted in December 2018 until the research was completed. Planning the New Factory Layout of PT Hartekprima Listrindo using Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) Method

PT Hartekprima Listrindo is a manufacturer that produces silent, open and mobile/trailer types of diesel-powered generators, along with AMF/ATS panels and synchronous panels with the HARTECH brand. The generators produce eight Kva power variants up to 3000 Kva power. PT Hartekprima Listrindo plans to increase the production capacity by relocating its factories to a new place. The production capacity of the new plant is planned to achieve 20 generators/year in a 5184 m2 total land area of production. This relocation design uses Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method, and the layout design is simulated. The SLP method is carried out by describing material flow in the production process using a Multi-Product Process Chart (MPPC), and then continued by using Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) which illustrates the relationship among the activities of the departments. The next stage of layout design is describing the Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD) and Area Allocation Diagram (AAD). The comparison layout design resulted in 2 alternative layouts that are better than the initial layout. The chosen layout design is alternative design 1 because it reduces transportation time and increases movement efficiency.

Modelling and Simulation of Facility Planning Problem Based on Improved SLP Method

Facility planning plays a critical role in various fields. An excellent facility layout can minimize the losses caused by the connection between facility units in production operations. In this paper, we improved the traditional Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method, combine it with the multi-objective decision optimization model. The Improved SLP (ISLP) method is described in detail in this paper, including its principles, process of building model, and calculation methods. To make the ISLP more suitable for research and practical problems, we established a mathematical model for it. This optimization model was also applied to the existing facility layout problem to realistically validate the effectiveness of the ISLP and the model. Results on the established model were found first, then the Flexsim simulation software was used to simulate the layout of the facility before and after the improvement. Finally, the results of the experiment were analysed and compared.

Research on Cell Layout of Injection Workshop Based on Improved SLP-G A

According to the background of multi-varieties and small-batch market demands, the layout of the injection workshop is reformed by cell layout. The mathematical model of the injection workshop cell layout is constructed to minimum logistics cost, and the model is solved by using MATLAB. By using the systematic layout planning (SLP), three groups of initial solutions are generated, which are used as part of the chromosomes in the initial population of the improved genetic algorithm (GA). In this way the subjectivity and complexity of the traditional SLP method are avoided, the global and local search capability of the algorithm is enhanced, and the optimal solution can be quickly searched. Finally, the cell layout of an injection workshop is completed through the algorithm.

Aplicação do Método SLP no desenvolvimento de um layout otimizado em uma empresa têxtil

A indústria têxtil tem buscado fortemente se manter competitiva no mercado, sendo que um dos seus maiores desafios é a busca pela eficiência na produtividade. Diante disso, o desenvolvimento de um Layout otimizado pode contribuir para a melhoria das atividades das organizações, gerando benefícios para a competitividade. Com isso, o objetivo deste trabalho é desenvolver a metodologia SLP - Systematic Layout Planning para buscar um novo Layout para uma indústria da área têxtil, alinhando a eficiência produtiva aos conceitos de qualidade nos produtos acabados. A metodologia adotada no desenvolvimento deste estudo manteve uma abordagem qualitativa. Já a coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevistas e questionários. Como resultado, constatou-se a importância de se analisar os modelos de layouts produtivos, visto que os resultados atingidos foram de extrema importância para a concordância do trabalho com os objetivos gerais da empresa. Os resultados apresentam as características do novo Layout que foi projetado, de modo a utilizar o espaço disponível, onde foi possível manter os corredores dentro do estabelecido pela norma, além de projetar os maquinários e postos de trabalho de modo a promover um fluxo mais objetivo e eficiente, reduzindo, assim, a movimentação desnecessária de materiais e pessoas.

An Extension of the Systematic Layout Planning System Using QFD: Its Application to Service Oriented Physical Distribution

This work presents an original combination of the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) methodology with Quality Function Deployment (QFD) for layout design of services. This methodology considers two stages. The first of these stages is Quality Function Deployment using the Modified Quality Matrix, and the second, the application of the various phases of the SLP method, using the data obtained during the first stage, in order to find a layout design which contains the client’s perception. The developed methodology was applied to redesign the layout plan for one academic department of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. This application enabled the generation of alternative distributions, which were compared to the current layout, and the assessment was conducted by a team from the Department itself, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP).

Logistics analysis and simulation in the intelligent manufacturing workshop

This paper aims to study the internal logistics system of manufacturing enterprises, and use the logistics analysis and modeling methods to plan and simulate the layout of the workshop. Firstly, the SLP (Systematic Layout Planning) method is planned for a specific enterprise. Secondly, the Flexsim software and the ExSpect software are used to simulate the logistics of the planned workshop. The Flexsim software is used to know the facility utilization rate, and the cause of the blockage is analyzed. The improvement measure of adding one casting machine and static furnace is proposed to solve the problem of equipment blockage. The modeling and analysis of the workshop is carried out in combination with Petri net, and the total working hours of production and processing are obtained through ExSpect software simulation.

Optimum Design of Ship Cabin Equipment Layout Based on SLP Method and Genetic Algorithm

The engine room is the heart of a ship, and almost all of the main electromechanical equipment that supports the work on board can be found here. Finding a way to arrange the equipment in a small cabin space is an essential factor in the design and construction of a ship. However, in existing research, when an intelligent algorithm is used to optimize the design of a cabin, the established mathematical model is not comprehensive and the solution has not been evaluated. The optimal solution obtained is not feasible for the actual design of a ship. This can lead to unnecessary redesign work, which seriously affects design efficiency and increases design costs. In order to solve the above problems, this paper innovatively refers to a Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) method (normally applied to the layout of plant equipment) to the cabin equipment layout issue. The SLP method is used to quantitatively analyze the adjacency and logistics relationship between devices, and the mutual integration relationship between devices is obtained so that a preliminary layout scheme can be retrieved. The problem model is constructed by considering various factors such as the comprehensive relationship between the equipment and the stability of the cabin, and the corresponding objective function and constraint function are established to further design the variables, operators, and steps of the genetic algorithm. The initial solution obtained from the SLP method is used as part of an initial solution to the genetic algorithm, and the genetic algorithm is used to optimize the problem. Finally, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to evaluate and optimize several groups of better schemes obtained by running multiple genetic algorithms and select the better schemes. The experimental design proves that the integrated design method has certain feasibility and superiority.

Warehouse layout and workflow designing at PT. PMS using systematic layout planning method

PT. PMS, a company which has specialization in offshore and onshore services has many equipments to support their service operation. The equipment has been classified into four divisions, Diving, ROV, Cleaning and Painting. The problems observed in PT. PMS warehouse were their disorganized warehouse system which has no fixed layout design. For the purpose of improvement, a new warehouse layout design was proposed in this study to solve the problem. The method of modified Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) has been used to design an efficient warehouse layout. Step by step layout procedure has been done. It consists of Activity Relationship Chart and Activity Relationship Diagram that have been discussed. It is proved from this study that SLP method provides an effective method in layout designing, even in the service company that has many equipments to be stored in an efficient manner.

LAYOUT EM NOVOS EMPREENDIMENTOS: ESTUDO DE CASO DE UMA PROCESSADORA DE CAFÉS ESPECIAIS

The process of develop a production layout is one of the key aspects of creating a new company, regardless of its market segment. This study aims to develop a facility layout for arabica coffee processing. Quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed through the SLP (Systematic Layout Planning) method, for this purpose, a research of the necessary equipment was developed, regarding its dimensions and production capacity. Was also considered the six principles of layout optimization. The result was a layout proposal, with an array of equipment following the principle of arrangement by processes. It was also elaborated the facility plant, with the explanation of the process flow.
